album cover
13/09/2002
okay, time to reveal the cover of the new album. it’s a black/white, minimalstic cover (suprised?) composed of a semi-circle (or parentheses, if you like) and the new sigur rós logo, handwritten by jónsi. the semi-circle/parentheses are made up of photos which the band took outside their studio in álafoss, as is all artwork on the album. the object on the cover is open to interpretation; for example, maybe it’s an emphasis on the album’s untitle, an invitation to each individual person to fill up the ( ) with their own album title, hence the space in between. or maybe it’s a semi-circle emphasising album’s two halves, with the “(” signifying the sweet half of the album, the “)” signifying the dark half of the album, and the space in between signifying the division, i.e. the brief period of silence in the middle of the album. or maybe i’m over-analysing and it doesn’t really mean anything, who knows? anyway, you’re all free to make up your own minds. here’s the cover:
